Welcome to the West Vancouver Yacht Club website

WVYC Race Team

Join us on Thursday, April 4th, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Yachting Centre for the Race Team Spring Season Opener! Open to parents and sailors from all fleets, including new and returning families. Agenda includes a Gear Swap, BBQ, Race Team Information Session, and Fleet Break-out Sessions.

The West Vancouver Yacht Club Jr Race Team is one of the most active junior racing programs in Western Canada. The club has actively supported youth sailing for over 20 years, and athletes from WVYC have gone on to compete in national and world championship regattas.

In 2007, the North Shore Sailing Team was formed and consisted of young sailors from clubs across the North Shore, Bowen Island and Gibsons.

In 2019 the name was changed to better reflect the contribution of the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Sailors from other clubs are still welcome, but are also required to become Jr. members of WVYC as well. There are many advantages and benefits including eligibility for financial assistance through the club's Corinthian Fund. The Race Team provides sailors with the opportunity to develop their skills as racers and train with experienced sailing coaches to improve their performance at targeted events.

  • Registration & Fees
    • All sailors must be a member of the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Team Members that have not joined WVYC as a Jr. or Intermediate member can do so by clicking here.

      Fees:

All fees must be paid using the links below.

The Spring session goes from March 1st or soon after to the end of June and varies depending on whether you own your own boat and which fleet you sail with.

There are two parts to the fees. A training component and a charter component. The total cost is based on whether you need a club boat or you have your own. Spring fees do not include coaches time for regattas. Training camps and regatta fees are billed separately.

If you have your own boat don't forget to add on "I want to store my boat at the club." Make sure you sign up for storage as part of your spring registration.

Based on demand, we will continue training for July and August and we will bill at the end of the month for drop in and in advance for camps.

Fall session goes from September to November and varies depending on which fleet you sail with.

Anyone that is not on Teamsnap please email [email protected] and provide your name, the sailor's name and the email address you wish team notices to go to. Everyone on the team must be on Teamsnap.

      Become a WVYC Jr. member.

You can submit your application for Membership to the Club Office ([email protected]) or scan and email it to [email protected]. It takes about a month to get your member number, but as long as you have submitted your application you can register. When paying, just put "Pending" in when asked for your member ID.

Fees for this spring will be based on the estimated number of days scheduled to be on the water for each fleet and the number of coaches required for each on water day. Camps are charged extra as not everyone might be able to make it to them and some of them are intended for a particular skill level of sailor. Regattas are charged after the regatta and are based on how many sailors attended and how many coaches attended. Regatta fees do not include registration for the regatta itself, which is the responsibility of the sailor.

  • Corinthian Fund
    • Overview

Established in 1985, the Corinthian Fund promotes the development of WVYC junior sailors who aspire to be high performance competitors by providing financial support to partially offset their travel and lodging expenses while participating in recognized Provincial, National and International Regattas and Championship events.

      How to Apply

To be eligible for funding, competitors must represent WVYC in competitions as well as demonstrate involvement in Club yachting activities and other functions through volunteer contributions.

Applications for funding support are reviewed by the Corinthian Fund Committee, which then makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. Information on the application process can be obtained from the Sailing Director.
