Mast Tower & East and West Hoists


  • Mast Tower
      • Please note that the Mast Tower is currently out of service due to planned renovations. 

      • Use of this Equipment is at your own risk.
      • Only WVYC members are permitted to use the mast tower. 
      • A safety harness must be worn by persons using the tower, and lifelines are to be attached with the snap hook on the eyebolt at each level of the tower where noted. Not sure how to 'put on' the mast tower harness? please ask a qualified WVYC Staff Member for assistance.

  • East & West Hoists
      • Use of this Equipment is at your Own Risk.
      • Only members are permitted to use and operate the East & West Hoists. 
      • Please refer to Regulation K. East & West Hoists for a complete listing of the Hoist regulations. 
      • Non-members are not covered under the Club's insurance policy, and therefore, are personally liable if they violate this Regulation. 

      East Hoist Instructions 

      Basic safety rules
      • Capacity 4000lbs.
      • Do not overload the device; if unsure of capacity or weight of vessel, consult with the maintenance supervisor.
      • Do not stand under a suspended load.
      • Do not ride in a suspended load.
      • If hoist motor does not work properly; immediately stop and seek assistance from the maintenance supervisor.
      Launching
      • Before moving vessel to launch area:
        • Check hoist motor for proper operation and that boom freely rotates.
        • Ensure launch area is free of obstructions.
        • Ensure that vessel lifting bridle is properly secure and in good order.
        • Turn hoist on.
      • Using the trailer tongue dolly; move the vessel to the launch area, aligning the centreline of the vessel with the yellow line.
      • Remove boom tether and rotate boom over the vessel.
      • Lower hook using the pendant control.
      • Attach the vessel bridle to the chain hook ensuring that the bridle runs fair and is not fouled in any way.
      • Tighten hook and inspect shackles at lift point to ensure all is running fair.
      • Lift vessel clear of trailer.
      • Using the bow-line, swing the vessel over the water and lower. Ensure that no person is standing beneath the suspended load.
      • When vessel is in the water, descend the wharf ladder and disconnect the bridle from the hook.
      • Return hook to top and boom to “rest” position.
      Hauling
      • Before hauling:
        • Ensure that vessel bridle is properly secure, running fair and not fouled.
        • Ensure that vessel is not overloaded with gear or full with water. Both cases require remedial action prior to hoisting vessel.
        • Centre vessel trailer over yellow line.
      • Remove boom tether and rotate boom over the vessel, lower hook to the vessel.
      • Attach hook to vessel bridle.
      • Take up slack, ensure that bridle runs fair and that it is not fouled in any way.
      • Remove vessel drain plug.
      • Lift boat ensuring that there is no person below the suspended load.
      • When at wharf level, rotate boat over waiting trailer, centre vessel on trailer and lower carefully.
      • Secure vessel to trailer using the bow-located trailer winch.
      • Remove hook, raise to full up position and rotate boom to “rest” position. Secure with boom tether.
      • Turn hoist off. Move boat to storage location.
