West Vancouver Yacht Club is home to one of the most active junior racing programs in Western Canada, the West Vancouver YC Race Team. The club has actively supported youth sailing for over 20 years, and athletes from WVYC have gone on to compete in national and world championship regattas.

Since 2007, the North Shore Sailing Team (Now WVYC Race Team) has provided sailors with the opportunity to develop their skills as racers and train with experienced sailing coaches to improve their performance at targeted events.

This year, the Race Team will support Opti Green, Opti Advanced, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Laser Standard, RS Feva XL, Club 420 and 29er fleets.

As part of our race training this year we will be offering the opportunity for sailors to get their CANSail 4 or 5  as part of race training. These levels are intended to be race focused, especially 5 and are best taught in a race environment. It is expected that if you sign up for CANSail 4 or 5 as part of race team that you attend weekend training. The more days you attend the more likely you will get your level. Any questions can be addressed to the sailing director or your coach.

In recognition that the best winds are usually during the day between 11am and 3pm, we will run our primary practices on Saturday and Sunday. This will allow us time to prepare before hitting the water, make better use of our time on the water by setting marks and running practice races, and time at the end for debriefing and cleanup. We will also offer Thursdays from 4:30-6:30. If there is no wind we may not go out.

Team Training Days
Opti Green Saturdays, Sundays 11:00 - 4:00 PM, Optional Thu 4:30 - 6:30
OptiWhite/Blue/Red Saturdays, Sundays 11:00 - 4:00 PM, Optional Thu 4:30 - 6:30

Please note that these times are subject to change to accommodate the schedules of the participants and coaches. Some fleets may not practice all days. The coaches will work out a schedule that best suits their fleet.

Anyone interested in joining our team please drop by on any of the training days and speak with a coach or the sailing director.

Anyone that is not on Teamsnap please email me at and provide your name, the sailor's name and the email address you wish team notices to go to. Everyone on the team must be on Teamsnap.
