Ladies Single Handed to Kendrick: Jul 14-15

4th annual ladies single-handed cruise
Saturday, July 14th - Sunday, July 15th

On July 14th, a group of WVYC ladies will be heading across the Strait to spend the night at Kendrick.
This is will be the 4th time that we have taken on this challenge and we would love you to join us!

Here are a few details:

* We watch the weather very carefully, meeting in the Clubhouse on departure morning to decide as a group whether we are going to cross the Strait or not. If the weather is not co-operating, our Plan B is Elliott Bay.

* We leave the basin together and sit off EHYC until everyone is rigged and ready to go.

* Along the way, we communicate via VHF and text. Some sing, releasing her inner Pat Benatar (Sonia),
some knit (Kathy), and some attract & dodge weird weather while pondering what ridiculously heavy
item she can lift next (Kelly).

* Once at the entrance to Silva Bay, we de-rig and wait for everyone so that we proceed to Kendrick together. We figure out a docking plan so that one goes in first with lots of runway to dock, and then catch the rest. We have never had to actually do this as there has always been someone there, but there is a plan in place “just in case”.

* Pink prosecco, appies and potluck dinner follow, ending the evening with a moonlit walk around the Island.
* Sunday, we do it all again aiming to be back at WVYC early-mid afternoon.

FAQ’s:

Is this a race and do I have to sail?
No, you can motor over backwards if you like, we would just like you to join us!

Is there a 1st place prize?
Kind of, you wash everyone’s dinner dishes.

Is there a prize for the best appie?
Don’t bother, Kerry has this in the bag and is unbeatable.
Just sit back and marvel at what comes out of Incisor.

I feel sick at the thought of crossing the Strait.
So do I every time I do this, you are not alone.

I am not sure I can dock at Kendrick.
Neither am I, you are not alone.

Can I bring a friend?
Yes, as long as she brings a bottle of something pink & sparkly she is more than welcome.

Can I get dressed up?
You can wear whatever you like.

I have a sport boat and can’t sleep on it.
No worries, lots of room to sleep on other boats.

I am not sure I can handle my boat myself.
The Club has 2 x J22’s that are sweethearts to sail & manage, take one of them!

And finally, is this an Invitational event?
No, not at all. The Foghorn takes a break Jul-Aug, so we rely on email to get the word out. Please feel free to forward this email to anyone that may be interested in participating.

Registration” is open so that we can get an idea of numbers and dock space required.
Contact Sonia Telford at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to be added to the crew list. We hope to see you there!
