LONGBOARD TAKES LINE HONOURS!

by Edward Karadontis, Fleet Captain

The West Vancouver Yacht Club Board of Directors, members and friends congratulate the crew of Longboard, the Riptide 35 MK II that resides on the west dry wharf at WVYC, who roared across the finish line a few minutes before midnight July 17 Hawaiian time in the 2014 Vic Maui Classic.

After a solid start on July 5 with a bit of tough early going through unsettled weather Longboard pulled out ahead of the fleet and never looked back.

Skipper Peter Salusbury and his crew of Jim Salusbury, Stewart Jones, Simon Jones, Jeremy Hill and Gina Borza brought their depth of experience, hard work and good humour to face the challenges of keeping Longboard moving at maximum speed and on the best course to finish; Longboard performed perfectly throughout.

For Skipper Peter Salusbury and Stewart Jones this was the second time participating in the Vic Maui Classic with Jeremy Hill making the passage with his parents while cruising the South Pacific. This is the second major win in 2014 for Peter and crew who finished first overall in the 2014 Swiftsure International Yacht Race - Lightship Classic this past May 24 – 26.

Congratulations to the families and all those behind the scenes who supported the team in this endeavour.

"Would be great to see WVYC back on top of the Vic Maui leader board since Sandy Huntingford last did so in 1992. Given the high caliber and experience of the crew on board (including Stewart & Simon Jones, Peter & Jim Salusbury, Jeremy Hill) not to mention one kick ass boat, I'd say they stand a pretty good chance. My money's on Longboard." -- WVYC Member, Will Hardy

Representing Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Turnagain. Aboard Turnagain, WVYC's Travis McGreggor, Commodore Jason Bowman, and Ty Abrams.
