Safety at Sea News:

We are pleased to announce the availability of a new half-day Safety at Sea Seminar to be held on Thursday March 10th from 6:00-9:30pm at WVYC.

Registration is now open via our online system and early registration is strongly recommended.

The Straits half-day Safety at Sea Seminar is for experienced sailors who are participating in the 2016 Southern Straits Race. The half-day seminar topics include:
- a review of required safety equipment
- preparing heavy weather sails
- obtaining and interpreting local weather forecasts
- hypothermia and cold water immersion
- man overboard
- emergency signals and communications.

Participants are required to bring to the seminar the personal safety gear that they intend to use in the 2016 Southern Straits Race, including PFD, harness, safety tether, and personal MOB light.

The seminar price is $95.00 plus GST. Early Bird pricing of $80.00 plus GST is available until February 29, 2016.
This seminar is recognized as meeting the half-day course requirement, per participant, as outlined in the 2016 Straits Notice of Race section 4.3.2: "Not fewer than two members of the crew, unless racing single handed, shall have attended a half-day, one-day, or two-day Safety at Sea Seminar within the last 5 years, or other courses as accepted by their national authority.”
